A Brief History

The GFWC Carrollton Civic Woman's Club Salad Luncheon began over 25 years ago when club members gathered for lunch and a good game of bridge to raise funds for community service projects. The CCWC Salad Luncheon is an event that club members and community participants look forward to each year. It requires much planning and preparation by each club member. Because of strong community support, this event has grown in both popularity and success. Although it has been held at several locations, for the past several years its home has been the Fellowship Hall of the Carrollton First United Methodist Church. Every October club members prepare a luncheon of delicious salads. Bridge, however, is no longer played. Instead, the club offers silent auction items, estate sale treasures, bake sale goodies, and raffles. The Annual Salad Luncheon is the club's largest fundraiser of the year and hosts people from all over the county who come together for fellowship, and most importantly, to raise money for the community.

Our fundraising goal for 2021 was $5,000. We are pleased to announce that we raised over $9,400!!

Silent Auction, Raffle, Bake Sale, Estate Sale

Items for the silent auction are donated by members and various individuals and businesses from the community. You will find a wide variety of items on which to bid, including wreaths, wooden pieces, jewelry, knitted or crocheted items, birdhouses, gift certificates, vacation packages, etc. Members also create baskets for the silent auction or the raffle -- collegiate baskets, wine baskets, children's baskets, baby baskets, chocolate baskets, holiday baskets--you-name-it baskets! The bake sale features homemade goodies from the club members--from whole cakes to cookies to cake slices to brownies, to just about anything sweet! Look for "better than yard sale" items in the estate sale section--crystal, collectibles, dishes, etc.

What to expect in 2022

The club is currently re-imagining our 2022 fundraiser. Instead of our traditional in-person gathering over food, the club has had to think outside the box this year, and make accommodations for the continued concerns surrounding Covid-19. Therefore, we are doing a few things differently, to try to raise the funds as we normally would.

We introduce to you, a virtual event, called the No Salad, Salad Luncheon. Throughout the month of October, we are simply asking for donations towards the many CCWC Community Service Projects we participate in throughout the year. As for the traditional silent auction and sales, CCWC will be hosting the SAFE 2.0 at our October General meeting at Venue on Cedar, where members will be able to invite one guest to attend. Just as we did last year, we will conduct a silent auction and collect donations for our community projects in the parking lot. It will be a combined fundraiser and membership event with box lunches for members and their guests. This event will replace our regular general meeting and we will follow COVID-19 precautions with masking and social-distancing. CCWC Community Outreach The GFWC Carrollton Civic Woman's Club has more than 60 members and focuses on community needs in five areas: Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement and Outreach, Education and Libraries, Environment, and Health and Wellness. Funds raised have supported a myriad of local projects.
